Why “Armenian Enough” Is Enough

We didn’t choose that phrase lightly. “Armenian Enough” was never about lowering a bar. It was about removing one that never should have been there in the first place. Because too many Armenians have felt like outsiders in their own culture, told they weren’t fluent enough, traditional enough, or looked right enough. That their identity was somehow diluted because they were born far from the homeland or raised without all the customs.

We made this space for them. For you. For all of us. Because the truth is: Armenian identity is not one-size-fits-all. It never was. We’re a global people scattered across continents, raised in different languages, shaped by different histories. And yet, something connects us. A feeling. A rhythm. A knowing. Something unspoken that lives inside us and shows up in the way we speak, cook, celebrate, grieve, or simply remember.

Being Armenian is not about percentages. It’s about presence. And you are here. We are still here. That deserves to be celebrated. It deserves to be honored, not disrespected through technicalities.

Whether you are 100% or 20% Armenian, whether you speak the language or only know the foods, whether your last name ends in “ian” or doesn’t at all, whether you’re from Yerevan, Tehran, Beirut, Boston, or Buenos Aires, if you feel it in your bones, if you carry it in your story, you are Armenian enough.

Our diversity doesn’t weaken our culture. It strengthens it. Every expression, every voice, every fusion adds another layer to who we are and who we’ve always been, which is a people who adapt, survive, and keep the fire lit in new and beautiful ways. That’s why we said it. And why we’ll keep saying it. Because sometimes, the simplest truths are the ones that need to be heard the most.
